The EU has raised tariffs on imports of Russian grain and is strengthening measures against illegal exports.

The European Union has agreed to raise tariffs on Russian grain imports to limit Russian revenues and prevent destabilization of the region's agricultural sector. The new duties will also apply to Belarusian grain and will come into force on July 1, EU trade chief Valdis Dombrovskis said in a post on platform X (formerly Twitter).

The decision to increase tariffs was made as part of the EU strategy to reduce the economic influence of Russia and Belarus on the European market. According to Dombrovskis, this measure is aimed at protecting European farmers and ensuring stability in the agricultural sector.

EU ministers also decided to strengthen measures to combat Russia's illegal grain exports to EU markets.

The Russian side has not yet responded to the EU's actions.
