The situation in the Persian Gulf escalated into direct armed conflict following the incident with the Iranian vessel Touska. According to an official confirmation from US Central Command, an American destroyer was forced to open fire on the vessel, which attempted to breach the established naval blockade and failed to respond to warnings. Following the shooting, a detachment of US Marines boarded the Touska. The vessel is currently detained and under the control of US forces. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps quickly launched a series of drone strikes against US warships in the region. Iran's top military command called the incident "armed robbery" and promised to take decisive countermeasures against US forces in the near future.
The escalation at sea is accompanied by the complete failure of diplomatic efforts. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that the attacks on Iranian vessels demonstrate Washington's lack of genuine desire to resolve the conflict. At the same time, Iranian state media officially dismissed reports of a new round of talks in Pakistan as false and part of a US propaganda campaign. Tehran's official statement noted that progress is being hampered by excessive and unreasonable demands from the US side, as well as persistent violations of the ceasefire agreement. During a phone call with the Pakistani Prime Minister, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed his country's intention to respond harshly to any aggression, making the prospects for peace dialogue extremely bleak.
