Estonian border guards have blocked the road on the border with Russia.

Estonian border guards have temporarily closed a highway that crosses Russian territory in several places, including the so-called "Saatse Boot"—a stretch of the Pskov Region that juts into Estonian territory. The decision is due to increased activity by Russian security forces in the border area, Estonian state broadcaster ERR reported.

According to the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, the restrictions were introduced on the Estonian section of the road to minimize the risk of provocation.

"Russian border guards regularly patrol the Saatse Boot area, as it's their territory. Today, we observed more active traffic than usual. We decided to close the road to prevent possible provocations and incidents." — explained the operational head of the Lõuna Prefecture, Künter Pedoska.

Estonians are permitted to travel along the 800-meter Russian section without formalities, provided they do not make stops. ERR previously reported on Tallinn's plans to begin construction of a bypass around the enclave in 2026, with the goal of completion by 2028.
