Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo ruled out providing security guarantees to Kyiv, emphasizing the seriousness of such a step for Helsinki. He stated this in an interview with national broadcaster Yle.
Orpo noted that Finland is not ready for such a commitment, but is willing to help organize protective measures.
"Security guarantees are a very serious matter. We're not prepared to provide security guarantees, but we can help with organizing security. These things have different meanings." - He explained.
Orpo's statement was made at a joint press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. Finland was mentioned in the US 28-point peace plan as a possible participant in ensuring security for Ukraine, but Orpo expressed bewilderment, clarifying that Helsinki had not received any specific proposals from Washington.
