France intends to complete the previously planned delivery of 600 AASM precision-guided bombs to Ukraine by the end of 2024. The deliveries were confirmed through the official account of the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, which also announced the expansion of production of these bombs to meet the needs of both the French and Ukrainian air forces. It is planned that by 2025, production will increase to more than 1200 units.
The AASM bombs, weighing 340 kilograms, are equipped with a GPS and INS guidance system, which ensures high accuracy when hitting ground targets. This type of weapon was developed for fighters such as the French Rafale, but experts allow its use on Soviet MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters, as well as F-16 aircraft.
Thanks to its guidance system, AASM allows for precision strikes against fortified objects and equipment. The French side emphasizes that this weapon, capable of performing tasks with great precision, is a significant support for Ukraine in the current conflict.
