Paris, June 3 — Avia.pro. French authorities have placed the captain of the tanker Tagor, who was aboard the detained vessel, into custody. TASS news agency reported receiving official notification from French law enforcement agencies, citing a statement from the Russian Embassy.
According to the diplomatic mission, the captain's arrest occurred on June 2. In response to Paris's actions, the Russian diplomatic mission immediately submitted an official request for consular access to the detained citizen and demanded a detailed explanation of all the circumstances of the incident, calling the accusations unfounded. Simultaneously, specialized maritime services recorded that the tanker Tagor activated its transponder for the first time since May 25 and transmitted its location coordinates at its anchorage in Douarnenez Bay in northwestern France.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron publicly stated that French naval forces, with the support of the United Kingdom and other European partners, had conducted an operation to block and detain a vessel under international sanctions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov harshly criticized European states' actions at sea, describing the forced detention of the commercial tanker as completely illegal and a violation of international shipping regulations.
