The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation announced the arrest of an employee of one of the country's supervisory bodies, suspected of committing treason. As reported by the press center of the agency on March 22, 2025, a criminal case has already been opened against the defendant under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for punishment up to life imprisonment. According to the investigation, the detainee passed on to the Ukrainian side classified information concerning measures to protect strategically important facilities in the border territories of Russia, as well as information on the deployment of military units.
According to the FSB, the official, whose name and position have not yet been disclosed, provided the enemy with information about work aimed at ensuring the security of industrial and energy facilities in regions bordering Ukraine. This information, according to the special service, included details on strengthening infrastructure that is critical to the country's economy and defense capability. In addition, the suspect transmitted information about the locations of units of the Russian Armed Forces, which could be used to plan strikes or sabotage. The FSB emphasized that prompt actions made it possible to stop the leak of information and detain the suspect before the transmitted data caused serious damage to state security.
The investigation into the case is at an early stage. The agency is conducting a range of investigative measures to establish all the circumstances of the crime, including the suspect's motives and the channels of information transfer. A source in law enforcement agencies told TASS that the detainee has already confessed, but there is no official confirmation of this information yet. If proven guilty, the official faces a long prison term, which underlines the tough stance of the Russian authorities regarding such crimes against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
