General Ivan Popov, accused of fraud, asked to be sent to the front

General of the Russian Armed Forces Ivan Popov, accused of fraud, expressed a desire to go to the combat zone. The general’s lawyer, Sergei Buinovsky, announced this in an interview with TASS. According to him, the defense has already started preparing the necessary documents.

If Popov is allowed to go to the front, the investigation into his criminal case may be suspended. The lawyer clarified that for this, the immediate commander of the accused must contact the investigators with a corresponding request.

Ivan Popov is accused of involvement in the theft of more than 1700 tons of metal products purchased in 2023 as part of the provision of humanitarian aid by the Military-Civil Administration of the Zaporozhye region. The investigation believes that Popov participated in the theft scheme, causing significant damage to the state.

At the same time, if Popov is sent to the front, it remains unknown who exactly will reimburse the cost of the stolen goods.
