Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin is accused of receiving a multimillion-dollar bribe

The Investigative Committee of Russia announced the detention of the head of the Main Communications Directorate and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin. According to investigators, Shamarin received a bribe in the amount of 36 million rubles from the general director of the Perm Telephone Plant Telta, Alexander Vysokov, and the chief accountant, Elena Grishina.

According to investigative authorities, the bribe was transferred to Shamarin between April 2016 and October 2023. For this money, the lieutenant general ensured an increase in the volume of products supplied to the Ministry of Defense and provided general patronage to the plant.

Information about Shamarin’s corrupt activities caused a wide resonance in society and among the military. The general director of the plant, Alexander Vysokov, and the chief accountant, Elena Grishina, were detained in the summer in connection with a fraud case. Their testimony and documents found during the investigation served as the basis for charges against a high-ranking military man.

The Investigative Committee continues its investigation to establish all the circumstances of the case and possible accomplices.
