General Kirillov was blown up by explosives from Poland.

The Russian Investigative Committee has completed its investigation into the terrorist attack in Moscow, which resulted in the death of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, Chief of the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense Troops of the Russian Armed Forces. Four suspects have been charged under several articles of the Criminal Code, which carry life imprisonment.

The assassination attempt took place on December 17, 2024, near a building on Ryazansky Prospekt. An improvised explosive device, smuggled from Poland disguised as a household appliance, was attached to a scooter parked near the building's entrance. The explosion killed the general and his aide, Ilya Polikarpov. According to investigators, the bombing was monitored online by those who ordered it, via a CCTV camera in a nearby car-sharing vehicle.

Charges have been brought against Akhmadzhon Kurbonov, Robert Safaryan, Batukhan Tochiyev, and Ramazan Padiyev. Safaryan received parcels containing explosive components addressed to himself beginning in the fall of 2024. Kurbonov assembled the device, attached it to a scooter, and detonated it after the victim left the house. Tochiyev and Padiyev provided logistics and attempted to conceal Kurbonov from law enforcement.
