A joint venture for repairing German-made military equipment has officially opened in Ukraine. This was announced by Ukrainian Minister for Strategic Industries German Smetanin on his Telegram channel. The enterprise was created with the participation of the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), a manufacturer of Leopard tanks, in partnership with one of the Ukrainian defense enterprises.
"I am pleased to announce the official opening of a joint venture between KMW (KNDS Deutschland) and one of the Ukrainian defense enterprises. The newly created company will specialize in the maintenance and repair of military equipment supplied by the German company to the Ukrainian defense forces.", — wrote Smetanin.
The exact location of the enterprise is not disclosed for security reasons. According to the minister, the equipment supplied by Germany as part of military aid to Ukraine will be repaired there. This includes Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks, PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery units, and Gepard anti-aircraft units.
The company will employ Ukrainian specialists who have been trained in Germany. Details on how the repair process will be organized have not yet been disclosed.
Germany's decision to open such a facility demonstrates its commitment to long-term support for Ukraine in the context of the ongoing conflict.
