Germany may transfer 110 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine within a week

Germany is considering transferring four battalions of Leopard 2 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

At the moment, it is known that the reserve of Leopard 2 combat vehicles in Germany is 80 tanks, while another 30 combat vehicles can be transferred from the forces used in exercises and training. If necessary, 110 tanks can be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine within just one week, since the tanks are already in a state prepared for combat use.

“Only from the stocks of manufacturers Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, Germany can deliver 80 units in the shortest possible time. Another 30 pieces will be used in the Bundeswehr combat training center to mark enemy tanks. They can be replaced by Russian-made tanks from Ukrainian stocks.”, according to the German edition of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

At the same time, deliveries of such weapons to Ukraine are unlikely to begin before the middle of next year. This is due to the large mass of tanks, and, consequently, the inability to use due to the current weather conditions, as well as damaged bridges, simply not designed to withstand the weight of these combat vehicles.

A little earlier, the United States approved a proposal to supply Ukraine with German Leopard 2 tanks.
