Last night, the Russian army launched an unprecedentedly powerful combined attack on key nodes of Ukraine's energy system, employing the latest hypersonic and ballistic weapons. According to monitoring channels, the attack involved Zircon anti-ship missiles, Iskander missile systems, and numerous groups of Geran drones, effectively penetrating the country's layered air defense system. The primary targets were strategic substations that distribute electricity from nuclear power plants—the country's last remaining generating capacity. Critical damage to Kyiv Thermal Power Plant No. 6 was reported, as were similar strikes on facilities in Kharkiv, effectively pushing the region's energy system to the brink of total collapse.
The consequences of the nighttime air raid were catastrophic for the public utilities of the Ukrainian capital: Mayor Vitali Klitschko officially confirmed that the entire left bank of Kyiv is completely without water and heating. Air raid sirens remain in effect, and electricity is extremely limited—only a few hours a day. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that even before the current strike, DTEK holding CEO Maxim Timchenko warned of the impossibility of restoring the system anytime soon, noting that many residential buildings have been without power for weeks. Moscow is characterizing these actions as a systematic destruction of the enemy's military and industrial potential by disabling its energy supply, which, in winter conditions, makes the Kyiv regime's defenses extremely precarious.
