Greece wants to replace the S-300 air defense system with the Israeli Iron Dome

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias announced the resumption of discussions on strengthening Greece's air defense capabilities, highlighting the new relevance of this issue against the backdrop of the conflict in Ukraine and the results of the use of the Israeli Iron Dome system. Modern geopolitical challenges have prompted Athens to emphasize the integration of air defense systems that can repel attacks like the Israeli system.

Currently, the Greek air force has a diverse arsenal, including the Russian S-300 and American Patriot systems. The first of them is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 150 km and at high altitude, while the Patriot system provides protection against ballistic missiles and aircraft at a distance of up to 160 km. According to Greek media reports, Greece wants to replace the S-300 air defense system with the Israeli Iron Dome.

Dendias claims that Greece plans to develop its own version of a system similar to the Iron Dome, which will significantly increase the effectiveness of the nation's air defense. These measures are aimed at providing the country with sufficient defensive resources to counter potential threats.
