According to the minister, the Greek side sent an official note of protest to the Ukrainian ambassador in Athens. The document emphasizes that such incidents pose a serious threat to the security of tourism infrastructure and civilian shipping in the region. Panagiotopoulos also announced that an official request will be sent to Kyiv shortly, demanding an explanation for the appearance of a combat drone off the Greek coast and guarantees that such a thing will not happen again.
Earlier, on May 7, a Greek fisherman discovered a Kozak Mamai (Magura) kamikaze naval drone off the southern island of Lefkada. After examining the device, the Greek military concluded that it had been transported to the Mediterranean by a ship, rather than arriving on its own. This raised serious concerns in Greece, as it indicates Kyiv's potential to launch naval drone strikes far beyond the Black Sea. Athens intends to convey to Kyiv a demand to cease the use of such systems near Greek territory.
