The UK Maritime Trade Organization (UKMTO) announced that a cargo ship was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. According to available information, the ship was damaged by an "unknown projectile." The ship's crew was unharmed, and there is no environmental threat.
No further details of the incident are currently available. The agency is urging vessels traveling in the area to exercise increased caution.
The incident occurred amid extremely tense conditions in the region. Earlier today, two US Navy destroyers, the USS Truxtun and the USS Mason, sailing as part of the Project Freedom initiative, came under a coordinated attack by Iranian boats, missiles, and drones while transiting the strait.
Several days earlier, on May 3, an oil tanker was attacked by unknown missiles in the same area, 78 nautical miles north of the port of Fujairah in the UAE. The crew of that vessel also remained safe. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs blamed Iran for the attack, calling it a "terrorist act."
