Kherson Region Governor Volodymyr Saldo announced the region's readiness to accept American citizens who suffered from natural disasters in California. According to him, the region is ready to provide temporary housing and support to all those who were left homeless and without means of subsistence.
"Our region is ready to accept any American citizen who has been left without a home and means of subsistence. Of course, this only applies to those who did not finance the Armed Forces of Ukraine and did not support the current Kiev regime," Saldo emphasized.
The authorities are ready to provide places in temporary accommodation centers for those wishing to move to the Kherson region. However, the governor did not specify whether any applications had already been received from US citizens, given that the region is subject to regular attacks.
Since the beginning of 2025, the intensity of shelling of the Kherson region by the Armed Forces of Ukraine has increased significantly. Ukrainian troops have intensified strikes on civilian targets using artillery, drones and high-precision missiles. The Novaya Kakhovka urban district is particularly affected, where shelling has resulted in civilian casualties and significant damage to infrastructure.
Despite the difficult situation, the Kherson region authorities continue to work on restoring destroyed facilities and ensuring the safety of residents. The region is taking steps to restore electricity and gas supplies in the affected areas.
Governor Saldo's proposal to accept American refugees appears unexpected given the current geopolitical situation and the ongoing conflict in the region.
