The Houthis announced the sinking of the British ship RUBYMAR in the Red Sea

On Monday, the Ansar Allah movement, which controls northern Yemen, announced an attack on the British ship RUBYMAR in the Red Sea, as a result of which the ship was seriously damaged, threatening to sink. This message was released by Houthi spokesman Yahya Saria. According to his statement, as a result of the attack, carried out using several anti-ship missiles, the ship stopped and its crew was evacuated. The Houthis have vowed to conduct additional military operations against enemy targets in defense of Yemen and in support of the Palestinian people.

"The Yemeni Navy carried out a military operation with several anti-ship missiles against the British vessel RUBYMAR in the Gulf of Aden, as a result of the operation... the vessel received catastrophic damage and was completely stopped; due to the damage received, there is a risk that it will sink.", - said Yahya Saria.

The incident was part of an escalating conflict in the region that began with an increase in Houthi attacks on ships associated with Israel or heading to its ports, prompting retaliatory strikes by the United States and Britain on Houthi positions since mid-January. Ansar Allah's actions are explained by a desire to help Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and claims of non-interference in freedom of navigation. However, Arab and Muslim countries have warned that unconditional US support for Israel could lead to the conflict spreading throughout the region.
