Russia and India have reached an agreement on the supply of fighter jets and the modernization of existing combat aircraft.

The Indian authorities signed a contract with the Russian military for the supply of 33 fighters to the Indian Air Force. We are talking about the purchase of 12 Su-30MKI combat aircraft and 21 MiG-29 fighters - the total amount of this transaction is more than $ 2,3 billion, while India also intends to modernize 59 MiG-29 fighters already in service with this country, in as a result, the total amount of the deal concluded between Moscow and New Delhi is estimated at about $ 4 billion.

“The Indian Ministry of Defense has approved the purchase from Russia of 21 MiG-29 fighters and 12 Su-30MKI aircraft - this decision was made by the Defense Procurement Council, chaired by the country's Minister of Defense Rajnath Singh. It is specified that the Su-30MKI is manufactured by the Indian Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd under a Russian license. Along with the purchase, India agreed to modernize the 59 MiG-29s already in service with its Air Force. The volume of the part of the deal related to the MiG-29 will be about $ 980 million, and the Su-30MKI will cost the Indian state about $ 1,35 billion. "- сообщает Lenta.ru publication.

It should be clarified that at the moment, India does not specify the reasons why it chose these Russian combat aircraft, although today, judging by the amount of the contract, it could have acquired more modern versions of Russian fighters. According to analysts, the reason for everything was the urgency of delivery, while the choice of other military vehicles would make India expect several years that New Delhi is not happy.
