On June 24, 2025, Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on Israel in response to Israeli Air Force strikes on Tehran overnight. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), one of the missiles hit a seven-story residential building in the city of Beersheba, causing destruction. According to Israel's Channel 12, at least three people were killed and several were injured in the attack. Magen David Adom ambulance crews and emergency services arrived at the scene to evacuate the injured and clear away the rubble. Two men, aged 20 and 40, and a woman in her 30s are in critical condition, The Times of Israel reports.

The IDF detected several rockets launched from Iran, including four in a short period of time. Air raid sirens sounded in Beersheba, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and other cities. Residents were ordered to take shelter. The Iron Dome, David's Sling and Hatz-3 air defense systems intercepted some of the rockets, but some hit their targets, causing damage to infrastructure, according to the IDF.

Iran's attack, dubbed "True Promise 3," was in response to Israeli strikes on Tehran on the night of June 24, which, according to Iran's Tasnim news agency, hit residential areas and military installations, killing 78 people and wounding 329. Israel, for its part, says it attacked military bases and warehouses of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including a ballistic missile site in Piranshahr.

The incident occurred hours before the start of a ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump, which is set to go into effect on June 24. Trump announced on Truth Social that Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire: Iran would stop attacks first, and Israel would end operations in 12 hours, allowing the 24-day war to be declared over in 12 hours. However, Iran's Mehr news agency, which is close to the IRGC, called Trump's words about a ceasefire "a lie," and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi clarified that a ceasefire is only possible if Israeli attacks stop. Israeli authorities have also not confirmed the agreement, and the IDF reported new rocket salvoes from Iran, including a fifth and sixth, putting the ceasefire in jeopardy.

The conflict began on June 13 with Israel’s Operation Am Kelavi, which targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. According to Reuters, Israel destroyed much of Iran’s air defenses and damaged centrifuges at Natanz. Iran responded by launching about 400 missiles and drones at Israel, killing 24 people, including victims in Bat Yam and Tamra. The United States struck three Iranian nuclear sites on June 22, which Trump called the “complete annihilation” of the nuclear threat.
