On June 24, 2025, the ceasefire between Israel and Iran announced by US President Donald Trump, which was supposed to go into effect at 7:00 a.m. Israel time, lasted only 10 minutes. According to The Times of Israel, at 7:10 a.m., air raid sirens sounded from Netanya to Hadera and Samaria, and later in many other Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Beersheba. According to the IDF, Iran launched several ballistic missiles, one of which hit a residential building in Beersheba, killing at least four people and wounding dozens. Magen David Adom reported 12 casualties, three of whom are in critical condition.
The attack was a violation of the ceasefire announced by Trump on the Truth Social platform, where he said Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire that would end the 24-day war in 12 hours. Trump emphasized the U.S. role in the talks, saying:
"We could not have made today's 'deal' without the talent and courage of our great B-2 pilots and all those associated with this operation. That perfect 'strike' late last night brought everyone together and the deal was made!!!"
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied a formal agreement in a post on X, saying: "Israel started a war with Iran, not the other way around. There is no 'agreement' on a ceasefire at this point." He added that Iran was prepared to stop the attacks if Israel stopped its "illegal aggression" by 4:00 a.m. Tehran time (3:30 a.m. Israel time).
After 4 a.m., Araghchi thanked the Iranian military, which he said “fought until the last minute” to strike Israel. Iranian state television said the truce went into effect at 00:7 a.m. local time, with the last rockets fired just before the deadline. Iran fired six waves of rockets, including the 30:7 a.m. attack, which the IDF called a “violation of the truce,” according to Reuters.
Israeli authorities have yet to confirm their willingness to observe a ceasefire following the attack. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has banned his cabinet from commenting on the situation, and the IDF has announced that citizens no longer need to stay in shelters as no new launches are expected from Iran. However, users on X have expressed skepticism, calling the Iranian actions a “military ruse” and accusing Tehran of sabotaging the peace process.
The conflict began on June 13 with Israel’s Operation Am Kelavi, which targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. Iran responded by launching some 400 missiles and drones, causing damage including the destruction of the Soroka hospital in Beersheba, where 71 people were injured. The US struck the same sites on June 22, in what Trump called “eliminating the nuclear threat.”
