Iran's permanent representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, said during an emergency meeting of the Security Council that the Islamic Republic reserves the full right to defend itself against US and Israeli aggression. Speaking in New York, Iravani stressed that the recent strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, including Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan, carried out on Sunday night, constitute a violation of international law, and Tehran is ready to take necessary measures to ensure its security. The statement came amid the ongoing escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
US and Israeli forces coordinated their actions by using precision bombs and B-2 aircraft in response to Iran's nuclear program, which has been a concern since June 2025. Iran responded with missile attacks on Israeli territory and increased activity by its allies, including the Houthis in Yemen. According to Reuters, Iravani accused the US of inciting war and called on the Security Council to condemn the actions of Washington and Tel Aviv, stressing that Iran does not seek escalation but will defend its interests.
