Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said the actions of terrorist groups in Syria are part of a US-Israeli plan to destabilize Western Asia. He said the strategy undermines stability in the entire region and that greater coordination between countries neighboring Syria is needed to counter it.
Bagai stressed that stability can only be maintained through coordinated efforts by key participants. He noted the special role of the agreements reached within the Astana process, of which Russia, Turkey and Iran are participants. These states act as guarantors of a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Syria.
"Cooperation between countries in the region, especially Syria's neighbors, must be a priority to counter terrorist activity that threatens the security of all," — said a representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
Iranian authorities have repeatedly stated that the intervention of external players, including the United States and Israel, is aggravating the situation in the Middle East. According to Tehran, the support of these countries has a direct impact on the intensification of hostilities, strengthening the positions of radical groups.
