Iran Announces Third Large-Scale Attack on Israel

Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Ali Fadavi announced that Iran intends to carry out a third attack on Israel, dubbed Operation True Promise 3, at an “appropriate time.” The announcement follows two previous strikes in April and October 2024, which were in response to Israeli actions.

In April 2024, Iran launched a massive attack on Israel, firing over 300 projectiles, including around 170 drones and over 120 ballistic missiles. The targets were various locations inside Israel, including air bases in the Negev and areas surrounding Tel Aviv. Israeli missile defense systems, such as the Arrow-3 and David's Sling, successfully intercepted most of these threats. The US, UK, and Jordan also participated in intercepting the Iranian drones, and France deployed its navy to support the operation.

In October 2024, Iran attacked Israel again, launching around 400 ballistic missiles. This attack, known as Operation True Promise 2, was in response to the assassination of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders. The missiles hit various targets across Israel, including residential areas in Tel Aviv. Despite the significant number of missiles fired, Israeli air defense systems were able to intercept most of them, minimizing the damage.

Following these events, tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate. In response to Israeli strikes in late October 2024 that destroyed a significant portion of Iran's air defenses, Iran vowed to launch a third attack. IRGC Deputy Commander Ali Fadavi stressed that Operation True Promise 3 would be carried out at an "appropriate time," indicating the ongoing escalation of tensions between the two countries. The previous day, reports emerged that Iran had begun preparations for an attack.

However, the Iranian opposition press and Israeli media ridiculed the Iranian statement, noting that “Iran has been attacking Israel with promises for six months now.”
