On the night of June 14, 2025, the Middle East was on the brink of a full-scale conflict after Iran launched a massive attack on Israel. According to Israeli military sources, Iran fired about 200 ballistic missiles, some of which hit targets in the Haifa and Krayot areas. Videos circulating on social media showed bright flashes and smoke over the cities, as well as destruction in residential areas. Israel declared a nationwide air raid alert, and citizens were urged to immediately take shelter in bomb shelters.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said: "The Israeli Air Force is currently carrying out precision strikes on military targets in Tehran, while intercepting rockets launched from Iranian territory." According to the IDF, Israeli air defense systems, including Iron Dome and David's Sling, were able to neutralize a significant number of the rockets, but some of them hit their targets, causing fires and destruction. At least 15 people were injured in Haifa and Krayot, according to preliminary information, and local fire departments are putting out the fires.
Iran claims the operation was a response to Israeli strikes on nuclear facilities in Natanz and Isfahan on June 13 and 14. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the missiles were aimed at Israeli “military centers and air bases.” Iran’s state-run Tasnim news agency said the attack used Fattah hypersonic missiles, which are capable of penetrating air defense systems.
Israeli media reports that the strikes on Tehran have continued for the second day. The IDF confirmed the destruction of key elements of the Iranian air defense system, including anti-aircraft systems near the capital, which allowed Israeli F-35 and F-16 fighters to operate in Iranian airspace with minimal resistance. According to the BBC, explosions were recorded in Tehran near Mehrabad Airport, where the Iranian Air Force base is located. Iranian authorities reported 78 dead and more than 300 wounded as a result of the Israeli attacks, although there is no independent confirmation of these figures.
