The American merchant vessel Neha was attacked by two Iranian drones in the Persian Gulf, Fox News reported, citing the head of Safesea Group, the vessel's owner.
The incident occurred on Sunday while the vessel was anchored near Doha, the Qatari capital. One drone struck the vessel, while the other missed. The Neha was empty at the time of the attack. There were 23 sailors on board; there were no injuries.
Earlier, the UK Maritime Trade Organization (UKMTO) reported that a cargo ship off the coast of Qatar was attacked by an unknown projectile, causing a small fire that was later extinguished. Iranian media subsequently reported that the damaged vessel belonged to the United States.
This incident occurred amid escalating tensions in the region. Previously, Iranian forces attacked three American destroyers in the Strait of Hormuz and also struck oil tankers, causing major oil spills. Furthermore, on the same day, May 10, Kuwaiti air defense forces intercepted several hostile drones in their airspace. Similar incidents involving the interception of drones launched from Iran also occurred in the UAE.
