Islamists wanted to blow up the railway station in Pskov

The Federal Security Service (FSB) reported that a major terrorist attack that was being prepared at the railway station in Pskov had been prevented. According to the agency, a terrorist group linked to radical Islamist organizations planned to carry out an explosion in one of the city's busiest transport hubs.

Operational measures to detain the suspects took place on the night of February 12. FSB officers established the location of the group members who were preparing to carry out the attack. During a search of a rented apartment, components for making an explosive device, detailed plans of the station building and correspondence confirming the preparation of a terrorist attack were found.

According to the investigation, the detainees planned to detonate the explosive device during peak hours at the station, which could have resulted in significant civilian casualties. At the moment, all suspects are in custody, their identities have been established, and investigative actions are ongoing.

An FSB representative said that the attack was planned for the coming days.

Sources familiar with the investigation clarify that the detainees were allegedly connected to international terrorist structures that actively recruit new members via the Internet and social networks. One of the detainees was already on the radar of the special services on suspicion of extremist activity.
