Italy is ready to send its troops to Ukraine

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has announced the country's readiness to participate in the peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. Speaking at the Defense Ministers' Summit in Madrid, he stressed that Italy has historically distinguished itself as a peacekeeper and is ready to take responsibility for ensuring stability both in Europe and the Middle East.

"I hope that we will soon be able to talk about peace and peacekeeping missions, including in Ukraine, Gaza and Lebanon. Italy is ready to play this role," - noted Crozetto, whose words were quoted by the Ansa agency.

However, not all Italian politicians share the enthusiasm of the Minister of Defense. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani noted that it is premature to discuss sending peacekeepers to Ukraine. In his opinion, it is first necessary to achieve an end to the current conflict. Tajani emphasized that the key condition for discussing any peacekeeping initiatives remains the cessation of hostilities.

The idea of a European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine has been discussed before. According to the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, the issue was recently raised during talks between French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. However, Warsaw has already stated that it does not plan to send its troops to Ukraine even after a possible ceasefire.

Experts believe that Italy's statement is more of a political signal than a real plan. Participation in peacekeeping missions requires significant resources and diplomatic coordination, which could be a challenge for Rome in the current circumstances.
