During the operation "Illegal-2024", Russian law enforcement agencies identified more than 106 thousand violations of migration legislation, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. As a result, 20 thousand foreigners who violated the visa regime or were in the territory of the Russian Federation illegally will be expelled from the country.
In addition to the large-scale deportation, over four thousand criminal cases related to the organization of illegal migration were opened. Another 684 cases concern various offenses, such as illegal border crossing, arms and drug trafficking.
Among other measures aimed at tightening control over migrants, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has begun to annul fictitious marriages that were concluded in order to obtain a residence permit. According to the department, such marriages have become a common scheme for legalizing migrants, and now such relationships are subject to detailed verification.
The “Illegal-2024” campaign is taking place against the backdrop of discussions of new amendments to migration legislation, which are aimed at strengthening control over the flow of migrants and preventing illegal employment.
