Due to threats from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russian airports have begun purchasing anti-drone defense systems

Airports in Siberia and the Far East have begun actively purchasing equipment to protect against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). According to the Baza publication, this is due to the growing threat of drone attacks, which increasingly affects civilian facilities. In particular, the Krasnoyarsk Yemelyanovo Airport announced a tender on August 9 for the purchase of two Bulat detectors and two Airat anti-drone guns, allocating 882 thousand rubles for this.

Other airports are also taking action. On August 12, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport announced a tender for the installation of a more complex and expensive UAV detection and countermeasure system, which includes a radar-optical system, a 294-degree surveillance station, and an integrated surveillance system. The maximum contract value is estimated at XNUMX million rubles. These measures are aimed at preventing potential threats from drones that could attack infrastructure.

An incident at the Belgorod airport on August 24 demonstrated the reality of such threats. Then, a drone crashed into the control tower building and exploded, damaging the casing and breaking the windows. Although drone attacks on civilian airports remain rare, usually targeting military airfields, the growing activity of UAVs forces additional security measures to be taken in civil aviation as well.
