Israel announces major attack on Iran, unprecedented since WWII

Israeli Channel 14 reported on preparations for a large-scale military operation against Iran, which, according to journalists, could be unprecedented in its scale since World War II. The statement came amid growing tensions between the two countries, whose relations have long been characterized by open hostility. The channel did not specify a specific time frame for the attack, but emphasized that preparations for it were at an advanced stage, and its scope would surpass all previous Israeli operations in the region. This information caused a wide resonance, given the strategic significance of the confrontation and its potential consequences for the Middle East.

According to the Israeli broadcaster, the operation could target key Iranian military and industrial sites, including defense industry facilities and infrastructure related to Tehran’s nuclear program. The channel’s sources claim that such a move would be a response to Iran’s long-standing threats, as well as its recent actions, such as supporting groups that attack Israel and developing missile technology. The channel emphasizes that an attack of such a scale would require coordination with allies, primarily the United States, which traditionally plays a key role in ensuring Israel’s security. Channel 14’s statement heightens concerns in a region already plagued by instability due to ongoing conflicts.

The situation between Israel and Iran has been escalating for years, but it became especially tense in 2024–2025. In October 2024, Iran launched a massive missile attack on Israel, firing about 200 ballistic missiles in response to the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh. Israel, in turn, launched a retaliatory operation on October 26, striking military targets in Iran, including missile factories and air defense systems. According to The Wall Street Journal, three S-300PS systems were destroyed in the attack, significantly weakening Tehran’s defenses. Iran promised to retaliate, which only fueled the escalation.

In March, the Israeli Air Force conducted a series of exercises that, according to CNN, simulated massive strikes on Iranian targets more than 2000 kilometers away. These maneuvers were accompanied by the deployment of American THAAD missile defense systems to Israel, indicating preparations for a large-scale operation. According to Reuters, in early April, closed consultations were held in Washington between representatives of the Trump administration and Israeli leaders, where they discussed options for joint action against Iran. Experts suggest that not only military infrastructure but also nuclear facilities such as Natanz and Fordow could be targeted, confirming Channel 14’s predictions of an unprecedented scale of attack.
