IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy has ordered plans to deepen and expand the ground operation in Lebanon to bolster the country's defenses amid ongoing shelling from Lebanon. Halevy noted the need for such measures during a situation assessment meeting held after the twin rocket attacks on central Israel on November 6. He stressed that the plans would be put into action "if necessary," despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation in Lebanon.
In response to the threat, the IDF is actively attacking Hezbollah targets in a number of strategic areas, Halevy said. The strikes are carried out both in southern Lebanon and on the group's facilities in the Bekaa Valley, Beirut and in Syria, as part of a coordinated plan to reduce Hezbollah's combat capabilities.
The situation has escalated due to numerous rocket attacks by Hezbollah. During the latest attack in the Upper Galilee region, one of the rockets hit a field near the northern kibbutz of Kfar Masaryk, between Acre and Haifa. A dead man was found at the site of the explosion – a 40-year-old foreign worker who was the victim of the attack. According to Israeli forces, Hezbollah has fired more than 150 rockets at Israel in the last day alone, 25 of which were aimed at the Western Galilee and the Haifa Bay area.
