On June 14, 2025, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) carried out a series of strikes on key Iranian military installations as part of Operation Lion Rising, including a radar complex in the Sobashi area (Hamedan Province) and a missile base in Tabriz (East Azerbaijan Province). According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) published on the Ynet website, the Sobashi complex, one of Iran’s westernmost radar stations, was completely destroyed as a result of multiple hits. The missile base in Tabriz, where ballistic missiles, including the hypersonic Fattah-1, were stored, was also destroyed. The strikes were part of a larger campaign aimed at neutralizing Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.
Satellite images before and after the attack confirm the complete destruction of the radar complex in Sobashi, which provided air defense for western Iran. Newsru.co.il specifies that in Tabriz, the Israeli Air Force also hit the Shekari air defense headquarters and facilities in the airport area, causing fires and destroying railway infrastructure. Iran's Mehr news agency reported explosions and casualties in Tabriz, where, according to the head of the emergency management department, Majid Farshi, five people were killed and 12 were injured.
Operation Lion Rising began on the night of June 13 and involved strikes on more than 100 targets, including the uranium enrichment facility at Natanz and the IRGC headquarters in Tehran. About 200 fighter jets, including F-35s, were involved in the attacks, according to Reuters, killing 78 people, including IRGC commander Hossein Salami and chief of staff Mohammad Bagheri. The IAEA confirmed radiation contamination at Natanz but said radiation levels were normal outside the facility.
