Israel buys transport helicopters CH-53K King Stallion: the deal has already been approved by the Ministry of Defense

After long hesitations, Israel will still be able to purchase the American heavy transport helicopters CH-53K King Stallion. The Defense Ministry's Armaments Commission approved the purchase of helicopters for the Israeli army. The decision in favor of the purchase was made on Monday 29 November.

The CH-53K King Stallion helicopter will replace the CH-53 Yas'ur helicopter, which entered service in 1970, in the IDF. Delivery times are unknown, as Israel plans to equip new helicopters with a new generation of avionics developed by local companies, but the Ministry of Defense has not yet approved such an upgrade. Israel plans to purchase from 10 to 15 such helicopters.

Israel announced plans to purchase new CH-53K King Stallion transport helicopters back in 2017. The competitors of this model were the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor and the Boeing CH-47 Chinook "flying carriage". The country's defense minister approved the purchase of the CH-53K King Stallion in February this year, and now everything is ready for purchase.

CH-53K King Stallion belongs to the class of heavy transport helicopters with a takeoff weight of about 40 tons. It is capable of carrying more than 12 tons of cargo on an external sling, and up to 55 personnel can be accommodated in the cargo compartment. The crew can include from two to five people (two pilots + three gunners, providing all-round protection).

The CH-53K helicopter accelerates to a maximum speed of 315 km / h and has a flight range of 840 km. The combat vehicle is equipped with active and passive protection systems: an armored hull protects passengers and crew from small arms fire, and active protection systems can protect a helicopter from rocket fire.

Truly a royal stallion.
