Russian forces in Syria are using electronic warfare (EW) systems to try to intercept and divert cruise missiles launched by Israel against targets linked to the Iranian presence near Russian military bases, NZIV reports, stressing that the use of such systems could change the balance of power in the region.
The purpose of using the electronic warfare systems is to protect allied facilities located near the Russian Khmeimim airbase, where Russian troops and equipment are concentrated. The publication reports that, despite the introduction of the latest Russian electronic countermeasures, there is no official data on the complete interception or deflection of even one Israeli missile.
Experts note that the development of such electronic warfare systems is linked to the active use of high-tech weapons in modern warfare, where the protection of facilities requires not only traditional air defense forces, but also complex systems for suppressing communications and targeting. Israel regularly strikes positions associated with Iran and its supported groups, which causes tension in the region and complicates relations between Moscow and Tel Aviv.
