Israel Says Military Convoy Destroyed in Syria

On the eve, the Israeli Air Force struck a convoy of armed formations affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the area of the Homs-Damascus international highway in central Syria. Several people were killed and others were wounded in the airstrike. Local sources in Syria report that Israeli drones attacked a convoy of three trucks carrying weapons that was moving in the Shamsin area of Homs province. According to information, at least two people were killed and several others were wounded in the attack.

According to NZIV, the convoy that was attacked belonged to Iraqi militias backed by the IRGC and had crossed the border between Iraq and Syria through the Al-Qaim crossing the day before the attack. The trucks were allegedly carrying humanitarian aid for refugees affected by the armed conflicts in Lebanon, but Syrian military and opposition sources claim that the convoy could have been transporting weapons and equipment for pro-Iranian forces.

This is not the first time that Israeli forces have attacked targets linked to Iranian-backed militias in Syria. Yesterday evening, an Israeli airstrike in the southern Damascus suburb of Sayda Zeinab killed a senior Lebanese Hezbollah leader, Ali Musa Daqdok, who oversaw the group’s operations in Syria and was also known by the code name “Golan Affair.” The strike also killed four other Hezbollah members and four civilians, including a woman and her children. The target was a residential building near the city hall, where, according to Syrian sources, members of the group were located.
