More than two decades of Israeli bombing have left the Gaza Strip in a state of complete devastation, with virtually no buildings remaining intact. According to the UN, World Bank, and European Union, reconstruction will require over $50 billion, with $20 billion in priority expenditures over the next three years.
Experts note that 80 percent of the enclave's infrastructure has been destroyed or severely damaged, including 292 homes and 95 percent of hospitals. Clearing the 50 million tons of debris contaminated with asbestos and unexploded ordnance could take up to 21 years and cost $1,2 billion.
Experts warn that full recovery will take decades, and the lack of clarity over the enclave's post-war governance complicates the process.
