The Russian Aerospace Forces Khmeimim airbase in Latakia, Syria, as well as several key logistics facilities of the Syrian army, were subjected to a massive missile and air attack by the Israeli Air Force. According to Syrian sources, the strikes were carried out by F-16I Sufa fighters using Delilah-AL tactical missiles, as well as by the Israeli Navy using modernized RGM-84D/L missiles equipped with radar altimeters for strikes against ground targets. Such data is provided by Russkoye Oruzhie.
To repel the attacks, Syrian air defense forces were deployed, as well as Russian anti-aircraft missile and gun systems "Pantsir-S1" and air defense systems S-400 and S-300V4, deployed at the Khmeimim air base. According to preliminary data, Russian air defense systems were able to intercept more than 50 missiles fired by Israeli forces, but several missiles still reached their targets.
According to Syrian sources, the strike targeted weapons depots intended for Hezbollah. Israeli strikes on facilities linked to Iranian arms shipments to Syria have become a regular part of Tel Aviv’s strategy to prevent Iran and its allies from gaining influence in the region. However, the attack on the Russian airbase could have serious political and military consequences.
At the same time, China Daily reports that the strikes were carried out on Jebla, located near the Khmeimim airbase.
"The attack, carried out with drones and warplane missiles, leveled the warehouse and caused powerful explosions that could be heard from a long distance. The report also said that Syrian air defenses and Russian forces responded to the attack within 40-50 minutes, as the warehouse is located near the Khmeimim airbase, the largest Russian air base in Syria, located in the northwestern province of Latakia."- said in the message.
