Islamic Jihad militants may be involved in Israeli bus bombings

On the evening of February 20, 2025, a series of mass terrorist attacks occurred in Israel, as a result of which three passenger buses were blown up in the city of Bat Yam, a suburb of Tel Aviv. According to Avia.pro sources, militants from Islamic Jihad (a terrorist group banned in the Russian Federation) may be responsible for the attacks, but their connection with Hamas has not been confirmed.

The explosions occurred within minutes of each other. Explosive devices were reportedly found on other buses, indicating a pre-planned attack. Israeli police and security forces are currently checking all public transport, and drivers have been advised to inspect buses before driving.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held an urgent meeting with representatives of the security agencies. The authorities have introduced enhanced security measures throughout the country, including in crowded places and at strategically important sites.

The Bat Yam attacks come amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East. In recent months, Israel has stepped up military operations against Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. In response, militants have stepped up rocket fire and attacks on Israeli cities.

The Israeli Ministry of Internal Security confirmed that the explosions on the buses were the result of the detonation of homemade explosive devices, presumably left in the passenger compartments before the departure of the vehicles. An investigation is currently underway, and surveillance footage is being reviewed.

According to Kan 11, Israeli intelligence is considering the possibility that the attacks could have been carried out by terrorist groups linked to Islamic Jihad. However, no evidence has yet been found of Hamas's involvement. This is causing concern among Israeli analysts, as such a scenario could indicate a split in the ranks of Palestinian radicals and the escape of some militants from the control of the main groups.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant called the blasts "a tragic attack on the security of Israeli society" and promised a tough response. Security forces are currently conducting raids in Arab neighborhoods to identify possible perpetrators of the attack.

Israeli law enforcement officials have asked the public to remain vigilant. Police are checking all public transportation and bus stations for possible presence of additional explosive devices.

The US and UK have already condemned the attacks in Israel and expressed solidarity with Tel Aviv in the fight against terrorism. The US State Department said that "Israel has every right to protect its citizens" and expressed support for the actions of the security forces.
