The head of the State Duma Defense Committee, Andrei Kartapolov, said that the Ukrainian authorities are following a path reminiscent of the actions of the Nazi regime during World War II. According to him, lowering the age of mobilization and attracting young people to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is reminiscent of the actions of Adolf Hitler, who sent young members of the Hitler Youth to the front in the last months of the war.
He noted that this measure on the part of the Ukrainian authorities will not be able to influence the situation on the front and will not change the course of events.
"This will not change anything. Our troops will continue to carry out the task set by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief," - the deputy stressed.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the development of a new format for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine — the so-called "annual contract" for young people aged 18 to 25. The goal of this initiative is to attract young people to defend the country by giving them the opportunity to undergo military training for a year.
Lowering the age for mobilization and recruiting young people to serve in the context of a protracted conflict has become a subject of active discussion both in Ukrainian society and beyond. According to the authorities, this is necessary to strengthen the country's defense capability and ensure rotation of personnel.
However, critics of this initiative see it as an attempt to compensate for significant losses at the front and solve the problem of personnel shortages by using inexperienced and inadequately trained young people.
Comparisons of Ukraine's mobilization policy with the actions of Nazi Germany have caused a mixed reaction. Historians note that the recruitment of young people into military service at critical moments of conflict has indeed been used in various historical situations. An example is not only the "Hitler Youth", but also other armies that mobilized young volunteers in conditions of a shortage of combat-ready personnel.
