Astana, July 7 — Avia.pro. Kazakh authorities have decided to restrict the regularity of border crossings for motor vehicles in order to prevent the uncontrolled export of fuels and lubricants outside the country.
According to the Republic's Vice Minister of Energy, Kaiyrkhan Tutkyshbayev, trucks and cars will now be restricted from entering or exiting Kazakhstan more than once per day. This restriction is aimed at protecting the domestic fuel market and stabilizing the balance of petroleum product consumption.
The relevant agency emphasized that special attention is being paid to identifying vehicles equipped with additional fuel tanks, which are used to organize so-called gray export schemes. Officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Financial Monitoring Agency, the Border Service, and customs authorities are involved in efforts to prevent violations.
According to official data, border regions, including West Kazakhstan, Aktobe, and Pavlodar Oblasts, have recently seen a significant increase in fuel and lubricant consumption. The government attributes this increase to the activities of individuals illegally transporting fuel to neighboring countries.
According to statistics from relevant agencies, 61 attempts to smuggle more than 3 tons of fuel in canisters and hidden containers were prevented at checkpoints in the past two days alone. Since the beginning of this year, Kazakhstan's authorized agencies have blocked a total of 593 attempts to illegally transport petroleum products across the state border.
