In response to the Trump administration's proposal to include Chinese and Brazilian troops in a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Beijing had no intention of discussing hypothetical issues. He stressed that China's position on the Ukrainian crisis has always been objective and fair, and the country continues to support the resolution of the conflict through dialogue and negotiations.
The Economist magazine reported earlier that US officials had proposed sending a peacekeeping force to Ukraine that would include troops from non-European countries such as China and Brazil. US Vice President J.D. Vance said a contingent made up entirely of European troops would be less effective in deterring Russia.
The US proposal to include Chinese and Brazilian peacekeepers in the mission in Ukraine is connected with the desire to create a more neutral and multinational contingent capable of effectively monitoring compliance with the peace agreement. However, China, adhering to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, refrains from participating in such operations without a relevant UN mandate and the consent of all parties to the conflict.
Beijing also welcomed the start of talks between the US and Russia in Saudi Arabia, expressing hope that a peaceful settlement could be reached as soon as possible. Guo Jiakun noted that China expects all parties concerned to participate in the dialogue and is ready to play a constructive role in advancing the peace process.
