China is developing a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier with a rail gun capable of firing projectiles at hypersonic speeds

The Chinese People's Liberation Army has unveiled the concept of a new warship - a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier equipped with a powerful rail gun. The project is an embodiment of an old Soviet idea adapted to China's strategy to increase its influence in the South China Sea.

Chinese Navy Rear Admiral and leading military scientist Ma Weiming proposed the development of a supership that would turn China's naval forces into a giant fleet. The project was presented in the scientific journal Transactions of China Electrotechnical Society.

The peculiarity of the new ship is that on board, in addition to the traditional aviation group, modern electromagnetic weapons systems will be placed: rail and electromagnetic guns, missile launchers, laser and high-power microwave weapons.

This nuclear-powered aircraft carrier is capable of converting nuclear energy into kinetic or electrical energy to activate powerful weapons on board. This makes it highly effective in air defense, anti-submarine warfare, missile interception and precision strikes against various targets.

Railguns aboard the supership will be able to hit targets in near space with guided projectiles at more than seven times the speed of sound. In addition, thanks to the electromagnetic charge, the shells will automatically reload, which will increase their firepower.
