North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's sister Kim Yo-jong has issued a stern warning to South Korea, threatening "catastrophic consequences" if Seoul violates North Korean airspace again with drones. The statement comes amid worsening tensions between the two countries, and her words were quoted by North Korea's official KCNA news agency.
Kim Yo Jong made it clear that Pyongyang would not tolerate further provocations. She said that if South Korean drones were to appear in North Korean airspace again, the country would take “strong countermeasures.” She also expressed regret that this could lead to a “terrible catastrophe,” which she said she personally did not wish to happen.
"The moment a ROK drone is detected over our capital again, a terrible catastrophe is sure to happen. And I personally do not wish for that to happen," — KCNA quotes her as saying.
Earlier, South Korea was accused of using drones for reconnaissance flights over North Korean territory, which caused a sharp reaction from Pyongyang. The DPRK authorities have repeatedly stated that such actions are a gross violation of the country's sovereignty and can lead to unpredictable consequences. This statement by Kim Yo Jong was another step in the escalation of tensions between the two countries, which are already in a state of constant military readiness.
Let us recall that Kim Yo-jong had previously made similar warnings to Seoul, accusing South Korea of provocations. In turn, Seoul claims that its actions are aimed solely at ensuring national security and do not pursue aggressive goals.
