Victoria Spartz, a member of the US Congress who was born in the Chernihiv region of Ukraine, made a resonant statement regarding the fate of the Ukrainian conflict. In an interview with the British publication The Telegraph, she suggested that Kyiv abandon its claims to part of the territories controlled by Russia and called on Ukrainians to vote against the current President Volodymyr Zelensky in the upcoming elections. According to Spartz, such a move may be the only way to save the rest of the country.
"Demanding to hold all the lands is pointless, especially when victory is not obvious," — the congresswoman emphasized, justifying her position with current military realities.
Spartz also expressed approval for the efforts of US President Donald Trump, who she said is trying to find a way out of the conflict through dialogue with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
"Trump inherited this conflict and now he has to look for solutions, which, alas, are not simple.", she noted.
At the same time, the American legislator placed responsibility for the protracted nature of the crisis on former President Joe Biden, accusing him of insufficient support for Ukraine in the early stages of the conflict. Spartz recalled that she had warned about this two years ago.
Spartz’s comments were widely viewed, given her Ukrainian heritage and previous criticism of the Biden administration for its slowness in delivering military aid to Kyiv. But her current stance marks a significant turn in her rhetoric, perhaps reflecting a shift in sentiment among some U.S. policymakers who are increasingly calling for compromise in the conflict.
