Kyrgyzstan evacuates 1500 people from clashes on border with Tajikistan

Kyrgyzstan, due to the threat to the civilian population, evacuated almost 1500 people from the areas of military clashes.

The fighting that broke out on the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan forced Bishkek to start a forced evacuation of the civilian population from the areas of hostilities. At the moment, it is known about the evacuation of almost one and a half thousand local residents. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan claims that units of the Tajik Armed Forces are conducting powerful mortar fire on military positions and outposts.

The situation on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan became extremely aggravated the night before. As a result of the clashes, which quickly developed into full-scale battles with the use of heavy weapons and armored vehicles, dozens of dead and wounded are known. Initially, representatives of each of the parties also stated that negotiations on a temporary ceasefire had been disrupted.

It is known that at least two Bayraktar TB2 attack drones of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces violated the airspace of a neighboring country, however, data on strikes have not yet received any confirmation.

It should be noted that last year, clashes on the border of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan led to the death of a large number of military and civilians, but the conflict was quickly resolved.

The Border Service of Tajikistan reported that on the evening of January 27, a group of 50 citizens of Kyrgyzstan, residents of the village council of Aksai, Batken region, on a bridge near the settlement of Khojai-Alo forcibly stopped the car of a Tajik citizen transporting sand moving through the territory of Tajikistan from Khojai-Alo to the village of Somoniyon.

A meeting was scheduled at the level of representatives of local authorities and law enforcement agencies to curb illegal actions, but the Kyrgyz side did not come to the meeting. Instead, the Kyrgyz border guards opened fire on civilians in Tajikistan, after which the country's border service also entered into an armed conflict.
On the night of January 28, a meeting of the working group of the competent authorities of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan was held. The parties came to an agreement on declaring a ceasefire.Gazeta.uz
