Hamas leader declares end to war in Gaza

Hamas negotiating chief Khalil al-Hayya declared the conflict in the Gaza Strip ended permanently thanks to the ceasefire agreement signed between the movement and Israel, Reuters reported.

According to the agreements brokered by the US, Egypt, and Qatar, Israel will begin withdrawing its troops, and Hamas will release all Israeli hostages. Al-Haya noted that the mediators and Washington have provided guarantees for a definitive end to the fighting.

"We have received guarantees from the US and the mediators that the phase one agreement means that the war in Gaza has ended completely." — he said in a televised address.

As part of the exchange, Israel will release 250 Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment, as well as 1700 Gazans, including all women and children. The agreement also provides for the opening of the Rafah border crossing in both directions for humanitarian aid and travel.
