On May 21, 2026, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that he was ready to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy "anywhere in Ukraine." He made this statement while answering questions from the media and the public at a ceremony honoring graduates of higher military educational institutions.
Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus does not intend to become involved in a war against Ukraine, and will only do so if aggression is committed against the republic.
At the same time, he recalled joint obligations with Russia:
"We will only be drawn into this in one case—if aggression is committed against our territory. And then we won't be drawn into it (you heard it from the Russian president)—we will defend our Fatherland together from Brest to Vladivostok, where the two states are located."
Speaking about the possibility of negotiations with Zelensky, Lukashenko stated:
"If he wants to discuss anything, seek advice, or anything else, please do. We're open to it. I'm ready to meet with him anywhere—in Ukraine or Belarus—and discuss issues in Belarusian-Ukrainian relations. And maybe even talk about future prospects."
He also expressed bewilderment at the fact that Minsk finds topics for discussion with the United States, Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, but cannot find them with Kiev.
