SVO News, December 9, 2025, Avia.proBelarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed confidence that external pressure on his country will not ease even if the conflict in Ukraine is resolved quickly. He stated this at a Security Council meeting in Minsk.
"What I'm getting at is that even if we manage to establish peace in Ukraine today or tomorrow, it won't make things any easier for us. They'll continue to strangle us." — Lukashenko noted, commenting on the current negotiations on the Ukrainian issue.
According to him, certain forces, including Western ones, continue to torpedo even American initiatives for a peace treaty.
Lukashenko emphasized the defensive nature of Minsk's policy and its renunciation of aggression, but pointed to threats from neighboring countries to the north and northwest, where, in his opinion, militant groups are being formed. He welcomed US President Donald Trump's role in the dialogue but expressed skepticism about any improvement in the situation for Belarus.
