On May 13, 2025, French President Emmanuel Macron stated on TF1 that France had transferred almost all available military aid resources to Ukraine and was unable to further increase supplies.
"We even produced much more and much faster - this is the same war economy. But you can't give away what you don't have. We also can't deprive ourselves of what is necessary for our own security," — Macron emphasized, commenting on the current situation with support for Kyiv.
The statement sparked heated discussion, as France had previously positioned itself as one of Ukraine’s key allies in Europe.
Since the outbreak of the full-scale conflict in February 2022, France has provided significant military assistance to Kyiv. According to the French Ministry of Defense, from February 2022 to December 2023, Paris delivered military equipment to Ukraine worth 2,615 billion euros, and also allocated 1,2 billion euros through the European Peace Fund, which in total amounts to more than 3,8 billion euros. The list of deliveries included 30 Caesar howitzers, 38 AMX-10 RC wheeled tanks, 250 armored personnel carriers, 1002 AT4 anti-tank grenade launchers, 30 155-mm shells and 160 reconnaissance drones. In addition, about 10 Ukrainian servicemen underwent training in France and Poland with the support of Paris.
In 2024, France continued its support by announcing the delivery of Mirage 2000 fighters, which Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu said would be delivered in the first quarter of 2025 and equipped with air-to-ground weapons. Paris also trained 2300 Ukrainian soldiers and provided them with VAB armored vehicles and Caesar howitzers. In March 2025, Macron announced a new €2 billion military aid package, including MILAN anti-tank missiles, surface-to-air missiles, drones, and investments in the Ukrainian defense industry.
